The energy-efficient, highly customized steel building serves as a warehouse and industrial shop for Communication Construction & Engineering, a full-service, Colorado-based underground utility contractor. In addition to general shop space, the expansive, sustainable steel building features a mezzanine that can hold up to 40,000 pounds of water stored in tanks. Contracting company employees fill their trucks with water before using it to blast dirt and debris away from underground utility lines, so the building features numerous wide door openings that allow trucks and equipment in and out.

Steel Industrial Building Specs & Features

Comprised of hardwearing, sustainable steel parts, the metal industrial building stands 76’x94’x20’x23’4” once raised and features an attractive, painted exterior with complementing architectural trim. A broad clear span creates an open, column-free interior, and a corrosion-resistant gable roof with a 4:12 roof pitch sits overhead.

The steel industrial building has (15) 4’x4’ double-paned insulated windows that let plenty of natural light inside without letting cooled or heated air escape. It also has (10) framed door openings in several sizes distributed throughout. Included are (4) 12’x14’ openings with (4) Model 2432 insulated overhead doors with electric openers, (3) 3’x7’ openings housing (3) 3’x7’ steel insulated walk doors with hardware, and (2) 6’x8.5’ framed openings.

Insulation System & Additional Customizations

The metal shop building features roof and wall insulation throughout. The shop/office area has R-30 insulation in its roof and R-25 insulation in its walls, while the main shop area of the building has R-19 insulation in its roof and walls. The high R-value insulation system slashes energy bills for the business owner, and it also helps muffle sound, prevent condensation and keep the interior of the building comfortable for use during all four seasons

A 30-psf roof snow load and a 115-mph wind rating are additional customizations made in compliance with local building and engineering codes.
