Prefabricated Steel Barndominium & Lean-Tos in Mancos, Colorado

Residents of Mancos, Colorado, wanted to custom-design a steel barndominium they could live, work and play in and worked with Metal Building Outlet to bring their vision to life.

Delivered to the southwestern Colorado community in March of 2025, the spacious and striking steel residence has 2,500 square feet of customizable interior space, with additional covered space available on either side thanks to two attached steel lean-tos. The metal home has (24) windows that improve ambiance by allowing natural light inside, and it also has high-performance insulation systems in its roof and walls, making it well-suited for year-round residential use.

The roof features a double-layer banded fiberglass insulation system, while the walls contain 4” of R-13 insulation. While the insulation keeps the interior comfortable, regardless of outside temperatures, it also leads to other benefits, like improved noise control, lower energy expenses and extra protection against condensation.

On the outside, the metal barndominium has eye-catching Hawaiian Blue paint with complementary Steel Gray trim. There’s also 4’ of Ash Grey wainscoting with transition trim surrounding the exterior, creating additional curb appeal. While the fully enclosed main metal residence functions is a comfortable year-round residence, the two steel lean-tos create covered outdoor space the homeowners can use for storing goods or completing projects, among other potential uses.
