Engineered for a racecar enthusiast and built into the side of a hill, the steel building houses the owner’s collection of racecars, motorcycles and tools and has 2,200 square feet of climate-controlled interior space for storing and servicing racecars. Fabricated to meet the owner’s automotive needs, it has special features throughout ranging from a custom exhaust port for ventilation to a 10’ foundation wall that supports its unique hillside design.
The client chose to partner with Metal Building Outlet after eyeing other company projects, including a building supplied for the Westernaires, an equestrian-focused nonprofit based in Golden, Colorado. The client also works in the construction industry and worked with Metal Building Outlet on a different building in Conifer, Colorado. He decided to purchase his own steel building through the company after seeing its processes and professionalism firsthand.
A Closer Look
The metal body shop and garage is 45’x50’x14’and has a clear span that creates column-free interior space for cars, bikes and tools. A double-layer, R-30 Energy Saver insulation system in the roof and R-19 insulation in the walls keep the building cool in the summer and warm during Colorado’s cold winters, leading to low year-round energy bills and big savings for the building owner.
The gray metal building with burgundy trim also has a thermal block acting as a barrier between the roof sheets and the purlins, generating additional energy savings. It also has (3) 12’x12’ garage door openings and (1) 3070 steel walk door opening. The walk door features a high-security lock system that stores up to seven different codes at a time.
Metal Building Outlet worked closely with the client to accommodate the building’s challenging hillside design, adding a foundation wall and engineering the shop to the area’s precise wind and snow loads. Rugged, low-maintenance and heavily insulated, the steel building protects the owner’s racecars from the elements while serving double-duty as a comfortable, all-season place to work on them.
